NATHAN: SKY IS THE LIMIT...

- By James Cunliffe

NATHAN Jones blasted Sky Sports’ pundits after Danny Hylton and James Collins struck to send Luton back to the top of the league and push basement boys Barnet closer to the trap door.

When the deadly duo score – as they did in the second half here – Town do not lose. In fact, between them they have now netted more times in this division than the Bees’ entire squad.

But once the live television cameras had captured a return to winning ways after five games, the Hatters boss let rip over the coverage of a tricky March.

“The media have really made a big thing about us not winning and getting draws and I think we needed to shut a few people up and answer a few questions, and we did,” he said.

“It was emphatic, it really was. We were outstanding.

“It was all set up for us today to lose the game; Martin Allen coming back, live on Sky, but we were outstanding from start to finish.

“A couple of results sort of went for us, but it was important that we answered a few people. I’ve watched Sky this afternoon, I’ve had to knock it off, because people are dissecting what we do. They haven’t watched the game.

“We’re a brave side, we get on it, we play, we develop players here, we do well. They should be lauding that, but they don’t as they can’t wait to shoot you down.

“That’s the nature of society today and the nature of the pundits on Sky, so it’s a real big win for us, it really is.”

Frustrations were palpable at a lacklustre and goalless first half, but Luton had it all their own way after the break.

Hylton won’t have a simpler task than to nod in to an empty net from point-blank range which, courtesy of Dan Potts’ wonderful headed assist two minutes into the second half, ended a three-month drought for his 16th this term.

Craig Ross then blundered to let Collins’ volley through his otherwise outstanding hands, gifting the striker his 18th goal of the campaign.

In fact, had it not been for the Barnet keeper, it would have been a rout.

On the start of his fifth stint as Barnet boss, Allen admitted his game plan “went out the window” when Hylton scored, but added: “We’ve certainly got a group that are giving everything they’ve got and I would say that the competition, for us, now properly starts.

“We worked extremely hard to get Barnet Football Club promoted as champions in the Conference, to come up and play in this league, to play at grounds like this, in front of passionate crowds. The attraction, for me, was to try to keep Barnet in the Football League after all that hard work that got us there in the first place.”
