WE HAVE TO KEEP ON RIGHT ROAD – FULLER

- By Andy Baber

AFC Wimbledon captain Barry Fuller has no desire for League Two football to be gracing the Dons’ new stadium as they look to get the points they need to avoid relegation.

Fuller was relegated with Barnet on the last day of the season back in 2013 when Wimbledon sealed their own survival with a second-half penalty in a 2-1 win at Fleetwood.

He now wants to help the side he joined at the end of that season escape the drop again, especially with the Dons aiming to be in their new stadium at Plough Lane for the 2019-20 season.

“All the players know how important this club is to its fans, we get told that straight after we sign here,” said Fuller, whose side were two points clear of the drop ahead of the Easter weekend.

“The club is going back home in the near future and our priority on the pitch is to keep us going forward. We don’t want the club to be taking a backward step.

“This club has always gone forward since it was reformed and we will be working hard on the training pitch and in games to ensure that continues. If we do our jobs right during the rest of this season we can build and move forward again.”

Fuller, 33, is determined to maintain progress on the pitch and is more than happy to win ugly if that’s what it takes.

“At this stage of the season, it’s about grinding out results. Performances are not as important now,” said the right-back, who recently passed the 500mark for career appearances.

“I don’t think anyone involved at this club – players, fans and staff – will care if we play badly and still pick up points.

“We just have to keep going and ensure we do enough to stay in this division.”
