Now bring on Rovers says boss Micciche

- By Matt Wright

MK Dons manager Dan Micciche believes his players will go into tomorrow’s home game against Blackburn with no fear after they boosted their survival hopes with a vital victory at Gillingham.

It will be a tough task for Dons to continue their recent revival, with the visit of Blackburn Rovers to Stadium MK being followed by a trip to another promotion contender Wigan next weekend.

But they’ll be full of confidence after George Williams’ late winner on Thursday night gave them their third win in four games and their first away victory in the league since September.

Micciche said: “We’ll have a game plan and we’ll respect Blackburn but we won’t fear them.

“We’re playing at home in front of our supporters and I hope that they turn out on Monday once they’ve been bored at home for two days over Easter and ate enough chocolate.

“You go into every game wanting to win it, regardless of who you’re playing.”

On the win at Gillingham, Micciche added: “If we look at the second half, two massive decisions haven’t gone our way.

“But I’m pleased for the players because they’ve kept the momentum going.”

Ed Upson had a decent effort saved by Tomas Holy before Chuks Aneke put MK Dons ahead after taking Kieran Agard’s pass into his stride before finishing confidently into the bottom corner.

Gillingham equalised, however, when Navid Nasseri marked his full debut with a goal by heading in Bradley Garmston’s cross at the back post.

The visitors felt aggrieved when Callum Brittain was harshly booked for diving in the area before Aneke was fouled by Max Ehmer, who was the last defender and only given a yellow card.

But Williams snatched the points for them late on as he got just about enough on Upson’s through-ball to stab his shot over the line. Gillingham boss Steve Lovell must now prepare his side for an away game at Southend.

Lovell said: “It’s a local derby. It’s a tough game.

“It’s disappointing to be going there on the back of two defeats but we’ve got to pick ourselves up and be positive for Monday.

“We’ve got to get back to that lovely feeling that you get when you win games.

“Our final ball into the box wasn’t as good as it has been and that was maybe a reason why we didn’t finish the game off.”
