JORDAN ONE OF STOREYS OF THE SEASON

- By Alex Marrow

EXETER’S young defender Jordan Storey is proving to be a fine asset for the promotion-chasers, according to teammate Jordan Tillson.

Storey’s winner nine minutes from time against Cheltenham on Easter Monday was his second goal in eight League Two appearances for the Grecians.

The 20-year-old made his debut in October, but started a game for the first time against Luton only in February, and midfielder Tillson is impressed with how easily the youngster has taken to regular firstteam football.

Tillson, 25, said: “It’s a big step, especially at this crucial time of the year, and he’s looked comfortable there.

“It’s his temperament. He’s not got carried away. He’s just got his head down and taken it game by game, and he’s done brilliantly for us. He’s just got to keep doing that and he’ll be fine.

“He’s got a goal in him and it’s always a great asset. He looks threatening in both boxes, He attacks the ball so well in our box and, if he can do that at the other end, he’ll be some player.”

In March, Storey volleyed his first goal for the club against Port Vale to secure a 1-0 away win, keeping Exeter in the hunt for automatic promotion.

Injuries to key defenders like Jordan Moore-Taylor, Troy Brown and Luke Croll gave Storey the opportunity to savour some first-team action.

But Grecians boss Paul Tisdale was quick to remind the youngster he will need to keep fighting for his place in the side.

“His primary job is to defend, but it helps when a player of his type can go up for set pieces and be so valuable to us,” said Tisdale.

“His major objective is to play well enough to be selected next week.

“He’s a young player. He cannot start dreaming of anything else.”
