team mates

- Murray Wallace Scunthorpe Utd defender

Best mate? I’m quite close with a few of the new lads. Cameron Burgess is originally from Scotland and we get on well because of the Scottish connection. We just started a car pool sort of thing. We travel together to the training ground and maybe play golf as well after training, so we get on. Last to buy dinner? There’s a few in contention. Rory McArdle and Matt Gilks are the ones that stand out for me. I don’t know whether they’re experienced in knowing how to get out of paying for stuff. Rory loves to get his money’s worth when we have lunch. He has a massive plate of food, so it’s probably him. Worst dressed? I don’t think he’s always badly dressed but Duane Holmes – only because he came in recently in some terrible gear. He came in with a basketball jersey, a pair of swimming shorts and a pair of crocs. It was a bit too much for me. It was one of the sunny days we’ve had this year and I think Duane spotted an opportunity. Dressing room DJ? Tom Hopper. We usually have Luke Williams put some songs on during the training days and, when it comes to a matchday, Tom’s in charge of all the songs that come on. He’s got a good mix actually – lots of current music and some old classics, too. Always late for training? He’s been better this season, but it’s Hakeeb Adelakun. He used to always be late, but now not so much. We used to pick him up on the way to training but he was always asleep and we’d have to message him and get him up.

Teacher’s pet? Matt Gilks. He’s got a lot of experience and seems to get on really well with the gaffer, so I think he’s probably the best fit. I can see him going into management one day. He’s good to talk to if the lads want to put something to the coach. First on the dance floor? Duane Holmes. He’s actually quite a good dancer, to be honest. It’s hard to describe what moves he uses, but he often has loads of energy and it’s good fun to watch. I stay well away from the centre of the dance floor! Most likely to disgrace himself at a Christmas party? To be honest, I think a lot of the lads have it in them, especially if they’ve had a couple too many. It’s hard to pick one person. Our Christmas party this year was pretty tame, but I’ll pick Duane Holmes again. He likes to make people laugh, so I guess he’d fit the bill. FIFA king? I haven’t played against him, but Ryan Yates is meant to be a dark horse, so I think I’ll go with him. Charlie Goode has beaten me a few times, and Luke Williams, so I think they’ll give Charlie a good run for his money. Worst tattoos? Tom Hopper. He’s got lips on his backside, which is probably the worst. I don’t actually know why he does, but it was certainly a surprise when I saw that. Likely to make the best manager? I’ll have to say Matt Gilks. He’s experienced and his demeanour, I think, sets him up to be a really good coach. He’s great with all the players. I think he’ll make a great manager one day.
