CURRY IS RED HOT, INSISTS TIGERS PARTNER

- By Tom Blackett

HULL defender Angus MacDonald is expecting big things from youngster Adam Curry.

The 21-year-old made his debut in the Tigers’ Carabao Cup victory over Sheffield United, partnering MacDonald at the back.

And the former Barnsley man was fulsome in his praise for Curry, who joined Hull from South Shields in 2015.

MacDonald said: “He was good, very, very good. He had an exceptional game and didn’t put a foot wrong all night. He actually came in and led, which was great to see because that’s what you want young lads to do.

“You don’t want them to be shy. You want them to really show their personality and their character and that’s exactly what Adam did right up until the last minute.

“He’s been like that since we came back for pre-season. He’s been bang at it and given us senior lads something to think about because noone is safe.

“No one is guaranteed a place in the side and everyone is pushing each other on to be better because we all want to play.”

Curry was not the only youngster on show in the penalty shootout win, with Brandon Fleming and Robbie McKenzie also starting.

MacDonald added: “We had quite a few young lads in the side, which was great. To see the youngsters thrive as they did was exceptional.”

MacDonald, 25, is back to full fitness after dislocating a shoulder in the penultimate game of last season and is now looking to kick on.

“I’ve been biding my time waiting for an opportunity,” he said. “I’ve kept myself fit and I feel good.

“Obviously I was coming back from injury for part of pre-season but I feel fully fit and I’m just waiting for the chance to get in the team and stake a claim for a regular spot.”
