HAMMERS WAIT FOR DONS IN TV CLASH

-

AFC Wimbledon scratched a seven-year itch by beating Portsmouth in the first round in midweek – and they’ve been rewarded with a glamour tie against West Ham. It’s the first time the Dons have reached the second round since reaching the Football League in 2011. After winning on their travels at Pompey, Neal Ardley’s men can now look forward to mixing it with Premier League opposition at Kingsmeadow. The London derby against Manuel Pellegrini’s men has been pencilled in for Tuesday, August 28 – and has been selected for live coverage by Sky Sports. The other game chosen for live coverage sees Nottingham Forest host Premier League outfit Newcastle United the following night. Another intriguing tie is the one which sees new Fleetwood Town boss Joey Barton take his side to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester, who could field former Cod Army star Jamie Vardy. Exeter have earned a decent reward for seeing off Ipswich – the Grecians have a trip to Premier League newcomers Fulham to look forward to. Devon neighbours Plymouth also make the trip to the capital – they visit Millwall. Rotherham have been rewarded with an attractive tie against Everton at Goodison Park, while Mansfield travel to West Brom after hitting Accrington for six in midweek. Paul Tisdale’s MK Dons visit Bournemouth. The second round draw saw the inclusion of the 13 Premier League clubs who are not competing in European competitions, alongside Championship sides Stoke and Swansea. The remaining seven Premier League clubs will enter the competition in round three. Second round draw: North – Leicester v Fleetwood; Leeds v Preston; Sheff Wed v Wolves; Nottingham Forest v Newcastle; Doncaster v Blackpool; Burton v Aston Villa; Hull v Derby; Middlesbrough v Rochdale; Everton v Rotherham; Blackburn v Lincoln; West Brom v Mansfield; Walsall v Macclesfield; Stoke v Huddersfield. South – Brighton v Southampton; QPR v Bristol R; AFC Wimbledon v West Ham; Fulham v Exeter; Wycombe v Forest Green; Cardiff v Norwich; Millwall v Plymouth; Brentford v Cheltenham; Swansea v Crystal Palace; Newport v Oxford; Bournemouth v MK Dons; Reading v Watford. Ties to be played week commencing August 27
