Lowe relief as Aimson strikes late for Bury

- By Ben Reardon

BURY boss Ryan Lowe wants the Shakers’ supporters to look on the bright side after securing a last-gasp point at home to 10-man Forest Green.

Will Aimson thumped home a dramatic equaliser to cancel out Christian Doidge’s opener after half-an-hour.

However, a turning point came when Gavin Gunning was dismissed for a foul on Gold Omotayo, with 14 minutes left.

And in those final few minutes, Bury threw all they had at Rovers in search of an qualiser, with Aimson profiting from a scramble to divert into the net with a minute left.

However, Lowe later encouraged the club’s supporters to keep sticking with the club.

He said: “We are disappointed. I’ve just said to the boys, it’s early doors and we’ve set the bar high at this club.

“We want to be winning games by high scorelines, but it wasn’t to be today.

“The fans need to stick with us. The lads work their socks off, I heard a few boos from our fans, but we have to be patient.”

Forest Green were in front after 29 minutes when Doidge powered Carl Winchester’s ball into the top corner, after Bury failed to clear a set-piece. The hosts looked for a route back into the contest, with Adam Thompson heading over before the break, while striker Dominic Telford was thwarted by Rovers goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

After 76 minutes, Gunning was sent off by referee John Busby for bringing down Omotayo when he was through on goal.

Buoyed by a numerical advantage for the second home game in a row, Bury levelled in the last minute when Danny Mayor’s shot was saved by Sanchez, only for Aimson to thump home the rebound.

Forest Green boss Mark Cooper turned his attention to referee Busby, who he feel made a mistake in Gunning’s dismissal. Cooper said: “The red card takes away any chance we had of getting another goal. He got booked in the first half and the referee realised he made a mistake and it has cost us.

“The players know that individually and collectively, we were not good enough.

“The decisions we made were all wrong.

“The goal wasn’t a fluke, one player didn’t pick his man up. It’s because of us not doing our jobs, but I’m over the moon we got a point.”
