Goal king Fisher ties County up in Notts

- By Brian Coleman

NOTTS County boss Kevin Nolan claims his side got everything they deserved as Alex Fisher’s hat-trick helped Yeovil thump their hosts.

The visitors ran riot at Meadow Lane as Yoann Arquin rounded off the scoring on a terrible evening for County, who missed a penalty when Kane Hemmings hit the bar.

Fisher netted twice before half-time to put County on the ropes before completing his hat-trick after 72 minutes.

Nolan insists his players will be on the training ground this weekend learning from their mistakes.

“There are lots of emotions running through me,” Nolan said.

“But we got what we deserved because, quite frankly, when we talk about game plans, game management, not one of them have taken it on board.

“They’ve struggled under the lights and the expectancy of what’s been thrown at them.

“I’ve just told them that it was unacceptable in terms of my standards.”

The Glovers put Tuesday night’s defeat against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup behind them to pick up a first victory of the season in some style.

After County’s Nathan Thomas had a goal ruled out for offside, Yeovil took the lead when Elliott Hewitt made a hash of a clearance which eventually led to Arquin crossing for Fisher to turn the ball in from close range.

Wes McDonald then fed a low cross into the area for Fisher to grab his second.

Fisher grabbed his hat-trick as he capitalised on some dreadful defending to guide in off a post as Hemmings then fluffed his penalty.

And a dismal night for Notts was ended when Arquin headed in Carl Dickinson’s free-kick. Yeovil boss Darren Way has been waiting to experience that winning feeling this campaign and claims the win was the best he’s ever seen.

“I’ve been at Yeovil a long time now, as a player, as a coach, and now as manager and that was by far the best performance I’ve seen,” he said.

“With all the players we’ve brought in, we are going in the right direction. I know teams can say they’ve had an off day, but no disrespect we’ve blitzed them.”
