ROBINS CAN GET BEST OUT OF ME – CHAPLIN

- By Will Reilly

CONOR Chaplin insists he joined Coventry so he could work with manager Mark Robins after finally completing his loan move from Portsmouth.

The striker has signed until January, when the deal is set to become permanent, after a nervous wait on Friday – the cutoff point for loan deals in the EFL.

The 21-year-old fired 22 goals in 104 games for Pompey and expects his strike-rate to vastly improve at the Ricoh Arena.

“It feels very good,” he said.

“It’s a lot of relief, because it’s been coming for a while now as lots of people know. It feels good to finally sort it and just focus on the football now.

“I know a few of the boys here anyway and there’s a lot of good players here.

“I spoke to Marc McNulty last year. He had a great season and he said that the gaffer got the best out of him and helped him.

“That’s something I want to do. I know I need to get better and I want to get better. I want to learn and I think that’s what I want to learn from the gaffer.

“Speaking to him, I think that he’s someone who will be able to get the best out of me.”

It had been an uncertain few days for Chaplin but now he’s at the League One club, he can’t wait to get stuck in.

And with plenty of competition for places, he knows he has to hit the ground running to get the fans onside.

“I’ve been tagged in a few things by fans on Twitter everyday, so it’s good to see and I’m just looking forward to playing in front of them now,” he added.

“Like most strikers, I want to score goals and that’s something that I can hopefully show.”
