BUZZING BANNAN BIDS FOR MORE GOALS...

- By Tom Blackett

SHEFFIELD Wednesday schemer Barry Bannan has scooped the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month Award for August – after netting the ‘best goal’ of his career.

Bannan cracked home a stunning left-footed volley from outside the box in the 2-1 home win against Millwall. He received 63 per cent of the public vote to land the trophy, holding off West Brom’s Harvey Barnes and Brentford’s Ollie Watkins.

“I think that’s the best goal I have scored in my career,” said the midfielder. “It is just one of those ones that happens once in a lifetime and, luckily for me and the team, we got the three points and it went in.

“I have not scored a bad goal since I have been here and probably that is what I need to start doing – score a few bad ones and get my tally up!

“I will shoot as much as I can this season, I want to score goals, so hopefully another few can fly in like that. But I don’t think there will be many better than that.”

Peterborough winger Siriki Dembele claimed the Sky Bet League One prize, receiving 55 per cent of the public vote, for his superb solo goal against Luton.

“I am hoping I score lots more goals and help the team out in every way possible,” he said.

In League Two, Lincoln City midfielder Lee Frecklington picked up the trophy for his superb 25yard volley against Notts County. It earned him 60 per cent of the votes.

“As a midfielder, you often find yourself in that position on the edge of the box waiting for the ball to hopefully get knocked out,” he said.

“As it drops I am thinking about lacing it, but at the last minute just decided to try to sidefoot it. Sometimes you are a bit more accurate with that, and I was lucky that it went exactly where I wanted it to.”
