FRAIZER HAPPY TO SEE MARTIN ARRIVE

- By Theo Joyce

FRAIZER Campbell has welcomed the arrival of on-loan Chris Martin at the KCOM Stadium, even though it provides competition for him and his fellow strikers.

The forward believes the addition of Derby’s Martin, 29, and Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick, 31, during the transfer window will give the Tigers the extra quality they need to keep clear of relegation this season.

The 31-year-old said: “They have got experience, they are good quality players and they have been around the Championship for a while.

“The lads that have come in have fitted in, everyone is friendly and gets on.

“In any team that will boost the squad and it is great to have those two guys come in. Hopefully they can play a big part in our season.”

On the arrival of a rival striker, Campbell added: “Me, personally, I enjoy that (competition for places). You want as many quality men in the team as possible.”

Campbell, who pre-weekend had scored twice in six Championship games so far this season, is not too concerned if Martin’s arrival means he is out of the starting line-up.

“If that kicks you out of the team and you’ve got to train a bit harder and stuff then that gives me and the other forwards in the team a bit of a warning,” he added.

Campbell is also pleased to see want-away winger Kamil Grosicki, 30, back involved at the KCOM.

The Polish ace had been set for a move away on loan, but that deal did not come to fruition by the time the transfer window closed.

Campbell added: “We are all happy that he’s here and he is happy to be here. Hopefully he does really well because he is a talented player.”
