HOSKINS: WE HAVE ABILITY TO PUSH UP TABLE

- By Dylan Terry

NORTHAMPTON forward Sam Hoskins insists that the Cobblers are fighting tooth and nail to return to a sure footing in League Two.

Hoskins was a part of the Northampton team that were relegated from League One last season and they sit firmly in the bottom half of League Two, having won just one of their opening nine matches heading into the weekend.

Manager Dean Austin was critical of his players’ attitudes following their 3-1 home defeat to Cheltenham last week but Hoksins says that poor results have not been borne of a lack of work ethic.

The 25-year-old is also certain that goal-shy Northampton will find their shooting boots sooner rather than later.

“It is frustrating to watch, it is frustrating to be a part of, and I know it is easy to say we have to keep on doing what we are doing – but we are doing a lot of the right things,” said Hoskins.

“A lot of it is about practice, and you have to be practising lots of different types of finishes in training, which we do on most days.

“It is the fine details that we need to improve on, and then, hopefully, we can start picking up a lot more points.

“I am confident in the way we are playing. I am very happy with the group we have got.”

The former Yeovil man, who has been at the PTS Academy Stadium since 2015, is also patently aware that Northampton must concentrate solely on themselves if they are to arrest their dismal start to the new season.

Hoskins added: “It is important not to think too much about what is going on at different clubs.

“We are confident in the way we play, and it is now down to us.”
