OWNERS, FANS AND BOSSES NEED TO TEAM UP

-

FOOTBALL club owners are often much maligned and often little appreciated. In my experience, that is a really unfair point of view.

The owners that I have worked for have always cared passionately about winning, have invested what they can afford at that moment in time to create winning and have made their decisions (good and bad) with the objective of making the club that they love stronger.

You cannot always blame owners for not ‘backing the manager’. Managers do make mistakes and need to be stopped from making mistakes sometimes. Especially obvious ones.

And sometimes, hard though it can be to accept, the big picture of the club has to be more important than the next result.

The most important thing of all at a club is an openness in communication from fans to owners and owners to fans with the manager integrally involved in that dialogue. Because the better owners do listen to the manager, too. After all, the manager brings much knowledge.

The way in which Jurgen Klopp has brought Liverpool together as the bridge between America and Anfield is the perfect case in point.

It hasn’t always been smooth. For example, there was the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. But Liverpool are stronger than for many a year.

In the end, if everybody fights together towards winning then any club can get there. Just ask Leicester.
