MOORE’S SO KEEN ON NEW STRIKER SAKO...

- By Theo Joyce

WEST Brom boss Darren Moore thinks forward Bakary Sako will bring added experience and competition to his squad.

The 30-year-old Mali international has agreed a deal until the end of the season, having trained with the Championship high-flyers recently.

He was available on a free transfer after leaving Crystal Palace during the summer.

“He’s been a credit to himself while he’s been training with us and I can vouch for the fact that the way he has committed to us has been exceptional,” said Moore.

“He brings great experience and adds greatly to our goal threat across a range of positions. We’re delighted to get him. He brings competition to the group and a know-how of this division.”

Meanwhile, Moore praised Harvey Barnes after the winger starred at Sheffield Wednesday in midweek. However, he believes the 20-year-old Leicester loanee has room for improvement, despite having a hand in both late goals as the Baggies hit back from two goals down to earn a point.

Barnes put pressure on Wednesday’s Joey Pelupessy, who scored an own goal as they competed for Chris Brunt’s low cross with 86 minutes gone.

And a minute later Barnes went on a mazy run and avoided the best efforts of three Wednesday players before firing in the equaliser.

Moore said: “He’s got an eye for goal. We’re still constantly working with him to help him get better. As the games are going by he’s showing maturity as well, which is pleasing.”

Striker Dwight Gayle has also praised Barnes, but pointed to the contribution of the West Brom midfield.

“Harvey and Jay Rodriguez are great players, but the ones behind us are doing excellent at the moment,” he said.
