- By William Pound

YAKOU Meite is focused on achieving promotion with Reading after signing a new four-year deal.

The forward committed his future to the Championship club until 2022.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Royals from Paris St-Germain in 2016, has scored once in 12 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

“Of course, I’m very happy to sign again for this club. I’m very pleased to stay here,” he said.

“It’s a very nice moment.

“My contract was up at the end of this year, I decided to extend it because I think I can do much better for the club and I can help the club for going up.

“I learned a lot last year when I was on loan at Sochaux, I keep learning because I’m still young, I need to improve, but I’ve signed for four years, I’ve got time for improvement and to do much better.

“We’ve still got a lot of games to play, I hope the results will come.

“We can do much better and we will do hopefully.”

Boss Paul Clement was pleased to tie Meite down for the long term.

He said: “Yakou is a strong, powerful, versatile, attack-minded player who has demonstrated he is capable of playing in a number of different positions on the pitch.

“At 22 years of age, he is a player who I believe will continue to improve and I am very pleased he has committed to a new contract at the club.”
