SENIOR HAPPY TO JOIN U’S GOAL SERVICE

- By Tom Harle

GOALS have been flying in from all departments for Colchester and youngster Courtney Senior believes it is key behind their early season form.

The U’s had an impressive ten different goalscorers from their first 11 League Two matches, including two for Senior – against Cambridge and Port Vale, the latter on the opening day.

Colchester headed into yesterday’s clash against Stevenage in the play-offs and Senior is delighted to see so many players chipping in with goals.

He said: “We all seem to be getting in on the act.

“Easty (Tom Eastman) scored his first goal against Yeovil, while the likes of Jacko (Ryan Jackson) and Frankie (Kent) have also scored among the defenders.

“It’s good that we are all getting on the scoresheet, and we’re also looking very dangerous from set- pieces, which is important. The goals are coming from all over the pitch.”

Senior has played a key role in Colchester’s start to the season and the 21-year-old midfielder has put that down to his positive attitude.

“I try to think positive, all the time. I always keep myself fit, and I’m always wanting to go on the attack, as a player,” he said.

“I’ve been mixing it up in games, by coming inside from a wide position, which was something the gaffer (John McGreal) suggested. I think I can cause some problems for defenders, by dragging them inside.

“And when we are playing our football, I think we are one of the best teams in the league.

“We have no fear, especially away from home, although, of course, it’s still early doors.

“Our aim is to become even harder to beat, and a point on the road is always a good result.”
