MILLERS STRIKERS PREDICT FRUITFUL FUTURE

- By Graham Turner

STRIKERS Jamie Proctor and Michael Smith signed new long-term deals at Rotherham this week and the pair can only see good times ahead for the club.

Both players would have been out of contract at the end of the season, but Proctor will now stay at New York Stadium until 2021, while Smith has extended his deal until at least 2022.

Proctor, 26, who suffered a serious knee injury last season, said: “I’m absolutely buzzing. There’s been more downs than I’ve had throughout my career over the past 18 months, but there’s been plenty of highs, too.

“There was always going to be a lot of doubters this season, but there’s not one single doubter in our changing room, whether it be the players, the staff, even the fans are on board and they know what we are capable of and know what we give.

“I think the club is in a lot better place than it has been in the past to survive in this league.

“We could have picked up more points, but every game we’ve been in we’ve been in with the chance of getting something. So, moving forward, now, we will look to get as many points as we can.”

Smith, also 26, signed from Bury in January and scored six goals to help the club to promotion from League One.

He has one goal so far this season, but he said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first six or so months here. It’s a great group of lads and to top it off with promotion was an unbelievable end.”
