MOUNT KEEN TO BUILD ON ENGLAND CHANCE
MASON Mount has vowed to learn from being part of the England set-up, even though the on-loan Derby midfielder did not feature in either of the two most recent Nations League games.
Chelsea man Mount was an unused substitute for the goalless draw in Croatia and the 3-2 win over Spain in Seville, but wants to take all he can from the experience of being involved in the England senior international set-up.
Mount said: “It was an unbelievable experience and I loved every second of it.
“I was in and around the squad learning what they do, on and off the pitch. There is a lot of preparation that goes into everything. It is very professional and it was an unbelievable honour to be involved.
“It was a massive win against Spain. There was a lot of preparation that went into the game. We knew it was going to be tough playing away from home.
“It was a hostile environment, but the way we started the game and the way we prepared, it set us up perfectly and the boys were excellent.”
Mount’s form for promotion-chasers Derby this season earned him a first England squad callup and he is keen to be involved in Gareth Southgate’s plans in the future.
The 19-year-old said: “The overall age of the squad is very low. We had a lot of experienced players in there as well, but I think with the introduction of younger players as well, there is a good mix. We are all very hungry to succeed.”
Mount, who joined the Rams on a season-long loan over the summer, added: “I want to play for England and make my debut. That’s my goal. That’s my personal target and I’m going to continue working hard in order to achieve that.”
