Kyle adds second to punish the Pilgrims

- By Andrew Farrar

BURTON central defender Kyle McFadzean was the hero as his double strike helped Burton to their first away win of the season at Plymouth.

Unmarked McFadzean headed home Stephen Quinn’s 84th-minute free-kick at the near post to put his side ahead for the first time in a topsy-turvy match.

Argyle striker Freddie Ladapo had scored twice in the first half, opening the scoring with a superb shot from just inside the box that beat diving Dimitar Evtimov on nine minutes.

McFadzean levelled in the 19th minute, heading home from a corner after Ben Turner headed back across goal from the far post.

Ladapo pounced on a Stephen Quinn back pass to round Evtimov and score his second on 35 minutes but within four minutes Albion had again restored parity from a corner.

Skipper Lucas Akins headed home Jamie Allen’s 39thminute flag kick.

Ladapo then played his part in defence, clearing McFadzean’s goal-bound header off the line following another corner.

Burton boss Nigel Clough admitted: “It feels great, it feels like it shouldn’t have taken this long with some of the performances we have had away from home. The longer it goes on the longer it becomes an issue. We should have been better than 2-2 at half-time because we controlled the game and just gave away two silly goals.

“The second half was much more even.

“They came out second half and, in terms of chances, they started well, we got on top for the middle part and got the goal. It was nice to see it through until the end.

“We have been building confidence in the last few weeks. To actually put in a reasonable performance and win the game builds confidence.”

Argyle boss Derek Adams said: “We started the game very well, got a good goal from Freddie and played on the front foot.

“After that we concede a couple of corner kicks and give away a number of free-kicks, which lead to the goals for them.

“We didn’t defend well enough at set plays today, which is not like us.

“Their three goals have all come from set plays. To concede the goals that we did today was really disappointing because we’re not like that. We are usually very good in that area.”
