IVERSEN IN SAFE HANDS WITH THE LATICS

- By Max Chesterton

OLDHAM goalkeeper Daniel Iversen is delighted with the first-team opportunities he’s had under boss Frankie Bunn.

The on-loan Leicester stopper has made the number one jersey his own this campaign after Haitian Johny Placide left the Latics in the summer.

With four clean sheets to his name ahead of this weekend’s clash with Port Vale, the Denmark Under-21 international has been delighted by his form this campaign.

Striving to follow in the footsteps of Danish father-and-son Premier League-winning duo Kasper and Peter Schmeichel, Iversen believes he’s thriving under the watchful eye of goalkeeper coach Andy Rhodes and teammate Zeus de la Paz.

“There’s a massive difference between League Two and the Under-23s – it’s more physical, the tempo is much higher, and everything is a step up in quality,” said Iversen.

“They’re both great guys (Rhodes and de la Paz). We have a good laugh while we work together, and I’ve learnt a lot from Andy but I take in all the information coaches give to me, whether that’s here at Oldham or with Denmark.

“Andy has quick feet and good hands, so he’s teaching me a few of his tricks and I feel it’s making me a better player.”

Joining a Latics team that were relegated from League One for the first time since 1997 last campaign, Iversen joined a club eager to turn around their fortunes.

But the 21-year-old believes his side still have plenty of work to do.

He added: “We haven’t hit our full potential yet. We can play much better football but I think it’s coming and as we get through the season, I think you’ll see the best out of this team.

“I think we will start to show what we can really do soon.”
