Lowe on a high after Shakers bury Notts

- By Simon Smedley

RYAN Lowe hailed his Bury side’s “ruthless” performance as they soared to a thunping home win against previously inform Notts County.

The Shakers dominated from start to finish and they are now unbeaten in five matches, while Harry Kewell’s Notts County were sent crashing back down to earth after winning their previous three matches.

Lowe said: “That was a ruthless performance from the lads and exactly what I asked for beforehand.

“We can be ruthless like that when we’re in the mood, but the players do need to keep a level head.

“The delivery from the flanks was great, but it was only 90 per cent and I still want that extra 10 per cent.

“I’m more than happy for everyone, though. We got exactly what we deserved, but at the end of it all it’s still only another three points.”

Bury were two goals up inside the opening 20 minutes.

The opener came when Nicky Maynard slid in to convert Callum McFadzean’s cross as the ex-Bristol City, West Ham and Cardiff hitman registered his fourth goal in three games.

It was soon 2-0 as a low cross from Danny Mayor wasn’t cleared by a static Magpies defence, and the ball trickled into the path of Dominic Telford, who tapped home from three yards.

Dominant Bury almost made it three shortly before the break when skipper Neil Danns fired narrowly wide.

Notts came close to a reply on the hour mark when Jamie Turley’s powerful header was cleared off the line by Adam Thompson.

Bury made it three when Jay O’Shea scored from the spot after Matt Tootle was guilty of tripping Telford.

Nicky Adams’ superb curling strike wrapped up Bury’s big win in the 88th minute.

County boss Harry Kewell appeared a little shell-shocked. He said: “Too many of the players just didn’t look up for it enough,” he said.

“I’m not really sure why, because we’d gone into the game in good form.

“They are a good side, but we gave them far too much time and space. We needed to put more pressure on them, but for whatever reason that didn’t happen.

“It was a poor performance, so thank God we’ve got the chance to go and put it right on Tuesday against MK Dons.”
