WAY BITTER AT GLOVERS SHUT-OUT

- By Jonathan Dannatt

NEITHER Yeovil Town nor Tranmere Rovers could really complain about their draw as neither goalkeeper was truly tested during the 90 minutes at Huish Park.

For Yeovil manager Darren Way it means his team have not won in six outings and he was unhappy with some of the tactics used by the visitors.

“The players are frustrated because teams come here looking to delay our counter-attacks and I think they should have had one or two bookings for that,” Way said.

“We talked before the game about teams getting men behind the ball and they put one up front and make it difficult for us to break them down.

“Tranmere came here for a point and they are well organised and they’ve done that to a lot of teams this season.

“Our speed of play was a lot slower than I was looking for but I can’t fault the players’ passion and they played with heart and energy.

“Our forwards are trying to make things happen but we just didn’t have that quality required in front of goal. Sometimes that happens and we need to keep working to make sure it improves.”

Yeovil had the better of the few opportunities in the game as a flicked header from Alex Fisher in the first half was tipped over by Scott Davies.

After the break the Glovers went reasonably close again, this time as a cross from Jake Gray turned into a shot and with Davies stranded Luke McCullough expertly headed away from under his own bar.

Yoann Arquin perhaps should have done better with a Carl Dickinson free-kick that found him in the box but he could only put it wide, while Tom James had Davies worried with a free-kick of his own which the Tranmere goalkeeper tried to catch but could only push over the bar.

James Norwood did have a chance for the visitors deep into added time but, despite having eight league goals already this season, only rolled his tame effort into the hands of a thankful Nathan Baxter.

Tranmere boss Micky Mellon was pleased to make the long trip home with a point and admitted that neither side probably deserved to win the match.

“I think you’ve got to always respect the point on the road. A clean sheet is important because that is the bottom line we look for,” Mellon said.

“It was a huffy and puffy game with a lot of stoppages. There was never any momentum in the game. We know that we can do things much better but fair play, they hung in and got us another point. “We tried everything we could to get a spark in it and we’ll come away and say we had the better chances, but all in all we’ll have to be honest and say neither team deserved to lose it and neither deserved to win it in the end.”
