team mates

- Marcus Bean Wycombe Midfielder

Best mate at the club?

I wouldn’t say that I’ve got one particular one but I’m close with Nick Freeman, Bayo (Adebayo Akinfenwa), the big man, but I room with Nick, so we’ve had some funny conversations and I get on well with him. Bayo, I’ve known for years. We played together at Swansea 13 years ago, so it would be one of those two guys I’d say.

Last to buy dinner?

I’d have to say Nick Freeman, to be fair. He’s one of those that’s always asking for petrol money or he doesn’t want to go here or there because it’s too expensive! One time, he stayed in a motel in America and the boys were getting on to him because he showed us some pictures of it and it didn’t look the best. I think he’s stepped up a bit since – that motel was a dire gaff and he took a lot of stick!

Worst dressed?

That’s an easy one – Scott Kashket. Scotty comes to games in oversized suits. They’re way too big for him because he’s only a small lad and it looks like he’s borrowed them off his dad! Terrible prints too. A lot of it’s designer label but he’s just picked it off the shelf and there’s no thought process in it. He can’t have thought about it!

The pre-match dressing room DJ?

We change it now and everyone gets two tracks each on a Spotify playlist, so there’s no complaining from anybody! Before, there used to be a lot of moans about certain people’s music. Paris CowanHall used to get on the decks quite often and he’s really good but some of the boys weren’t too happy, so this is a bit fairer.

Late for training?

Paris again! He’s late to the extent where people have to phone him to get out of bed! He’s sorted himself out a bit now but he’s always been late in the past and he’s pretty much paid for our Christmas party in fines, which is nice. Drinks on Paris at Christmas!

Teacher’s pet?

The gaffer’s not particularly got one but Dom Gape is quite close with the assistant manager Dobbo (Richard Dobson). Dobbo used to play centre midfield and I think he sees a lot of himself in Gapey. He is a great player and I think Dobbo realises that and cherishes him!

First on the dancefloor?

Between me or Anthony Stewart. Anthony is one of those where if we’re doing weights in the gym, he dances in front of the mirror all the time. Him and Darius Charles both like a dance in front of the mirror, with little pouts! So those two, closely followed by me on the dancefloor.

Most likely to disgrace themselves at the Christmas party?

I’d say the skipper Adam El-Abd. What a leader he is but on Christmas parties, he gets a little bit wild! He is funny, I’ve got to say, and he does make our day. He’s a leader and gets everything going but sometimes takes the banter a little bit too far – I won’t give you examples!

Going to make the best manager?

I’d say Matt Bloomfield, who’s a Wycombe legend – he’ll make an excellent manager. He’s a truly great role model and has a lot to offer the game, and I’d probably also say Adam El-Abd would be a good manager as well. They’re both doing the coaching badges too, so I think they want to go down that route.
