ROBERTS AIMS FOR RUN IN LATICS LINE-UP
GARY Roberts may have been a shock inclusion in Wigan Athletic’s team to face West Brom last weekend.
But by full time, with a 1-0 win in the bag and Roberts starring with a tireless performance, his selection was fully justified.
Roberts was delighted to get back in the team.
“It was nice to finally get involved last weekend when I came into the team for our game against West Brom,” he said.
“We have a strong squad here so to break in and get some minutes was nice.
“It was a great feeling just to get on the pitch really, I was excited to get in and be a part of it.
“It’s been a long time since I started a Championship game, I was looking forward to playing and the result matched it.
“The way we wanted to play, we had to respect West Brom because they have so many threats in the team.
“It was something the gaffer came up with Monday and Tuesday, we then worked on it all week and when you see something work out like that when you’ve worked so hard on it, it was nice and good to get the win.”
And while some might be content with the Latics simply staying in the Championship this term, Roberts insists the only aim in the camp is for them to finish as high as possible.
“We want to be at the top end – your aspirations are not just to knock about leagues,” he said.
