SKY BLUES ARE IN HEAVEN, BUT IT’S HELL FOR BANTAMS

- LEAGUE ONE

IN-FORM Coventry made it four wins on the spin as they triumphed 4-2 at Bradford – and sent the Bantams to the bottom of the table. A header from Jonson Clarke-Harris and a fine Conor Chaplin free-kick gave the Sky Blues a two-goal lead in the opening 11 minutes. David Hopkin’s side pulled one back just after the hour mark through Anthony O’Connor, but Jordy Hiwula quickly restored Coventry’s two-goal cushion. Tom Bayliss fired home the fourth on 70 minutes as Mark Robins’ men turned on the style. O’Connor notched his second and the Bantams had striker George Miller sent off for a second yellow when he handled the ball into the net late on. Demanding Sky Blues boss Robins said: “We’ve created quite a few chances and taken four of them, away from home, which is outstanding. “But I think, if we’re honest, we haven’t played as well as we have been doing so from that point of view it’s disappointing.” Luton were another team to hit four goals, demolishing high-flying Accrington Stanley to move into the play-off positions. Danny Hylton was the star of the show for the Hatters, hitting a hat-trick, while Andrew Shinnie also struck. Offrande Zanzala netted for Stanley, who beat Luton to the League Two title last term. League leaders Portsmouth saw their advantage at the top of the table trimmed to four points after they drew 2-2 at home against Burton. Oli Hawkins and Matt Clarke were on the mark for Pompey, but sub Devante Cole, with his first touch, and Jake Hesketh scored for Nigel Clough’s Brewers in front of more than 18,000 fans at Fratton Park. Peterborough kept their grip on second place with a 1-0 home victory against Fleetwood, Rhys Bennett grabbing the all-important goal. Third-placed Sunderland continued their solid form with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Doncaster. Chris Maguire tapped home the 47th-minute winner. Plymouth climbed off the bottom of the table and eased the pressure on manager Derek Adams with an excellent 3-1 home win against Gillingham. Freddie Ladapo made it successive two-goal hauls at home and sub Ruben Lameiras also notched. Luke O’Neill netted a consolation for the out-of-sorts Gills. Oxford United manager Karl Robinson’s return to former club Charlton proved a satisfactory one as the U’s earned a point. Lyle Taylor gave the Addicks the lead from the spot, but U’s sub Gavin Whyte levelled things up in the second half.
