TYLER’S HUNGRY TO HIT GOALS GALORE

- By Connor McLoughlin

MANSFIELD striker Tyler Walker has set his sights on scoring at least 20 goals this season.

The in-form front man had notched five goals in his last three games for the Stags before this weekend’s action, a brace against Grimsby on Tuesday meaning he had already found the net 12 times this term.

The son of former England international Des Walker joined Mansfield on loan from Nottingham Forest in June and is setting the bar high after a rip-roaring start to life at the One Call Stadium.

Walker, 22, said: “I just want to score as many as I can to help the team – over 20-25 goals at least. I should have had three or four against Grimsby, but, obviously, it wasn’t meant to be.

“I’m just happy about the win mainly and about the five goals in three games, so hopefully that can continue. It’s what I am here to do.”

Walker also praised the service he had been getting from widemen Jacob Mellis and CJ Hamilton.

He added: “They can put the ball in and, as a striker, it’s a dream when you get service like that.”

Since joining in the summer, Walker – an England Under-20 international – has been impressed with the depth of the Mansfield squad.

The Stags have not lost in the league since mid-September.

“We’ve got a strong side with power on the bench, so when things aren’t quite going our way we know that we can bring lads on that will help impact the game,” said Walker.

Meanwhile, Mansfield’s oldest living player Walter Edwards passed away on Tuesday, aged 94.

Edwards, who had been living with dementia, served in the Army and made his debut for the club in 1947. He also played for Leicester City, Rochdale and Boston United.
