GRIMES FINALLY SETTLED AT THE SWANS
MATT GRIMES is “absolutely loving” life at Swansea – something he admits he was not sure he would ever say.
Having joined the Swans from Exeter in 2015, the 23-year-old midfielder had made seven outings for the Welsh club in three and a half years.
He was sent out on loan to Blackburn, Leeds and Northampton, but is now a regular starter and enjoying his football under Graham Potter at the Liberty Stadium.
Grimes, who this week signed a new deal until 2022, said: “Feeling settled at a club is a massive thing and that’s what I have here now.
“I didn’t know where my future was heading when I came back this summer but, as soon as the manager gave me an opportunity, I knew this is where I wanted to be playing my football. I’m very thankful for the opportunity.
“It was a tough few years for me, but I’ve had a run in the team and an opportunity from the manager, so I’m hoping to repay him for that.
“I am absolutely loving my football and the way Swansea play, and now I’ve signed a new contract I couldn’t be happier. I look at it as the real start of my Swansea career.”
Boss Potter added: “Matt is someone who has made the most of his opportunity this season and we are delighted he has signed a new contract.
“He’s a good footballer, technically minded and adaptable, and I believe he is someone who we can develop further.
“I’m excited by his quality and potential and I think our fans have already seen big glimpses of what he can bring to our team. His job now is to keep learning and keep developing and I am confident he will do that.”
Midfielder Jay Fulton, 24, signed a new deal on Tuesday to join defender Joe Rodon, 21, who agreed fresh terms ten days ago.
