BUOYANT PABLO RELISHES LIFE AT LEEDS

- By Theo Sisman

LEEDS midfielder Pablo Hernandez admits he is playing some of the best football of his career.

The Whites went into the weekend at the top of the Championship as they target a return to the Premier League under experienced boss Marcelo Bielsa.

Midfielder Hernandez, 33, who has also played for Valencia, Getafe, Swansea and Al-Arabi, has scored four goals and provided a number of assists.

“I don’t know if it’s the best, but sure it’s one of the best,” he said.

“I have confidence now, I score, I assist, I want to help the team. The team being top of the league is a great moment for me.

“I know my age. I feel good, I feel young. It’s true that the staff pay more attention to the food, the rest, and what we do at home, all of which I think helps.

“I know we have good, young players, and I try to help them. In this situation, when you’re top of the league and you need to win, I think I can help them because I have experience in the Spanish League, Premier League and Champions League.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Adam Forshaw believes Bielsa’s style of play is key to Leeds getting back to the top flight.

The 27-year-old was handed his first start of the season in the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest and kept his place for the win against Wigan that saw the Yorkshire club move back to the summit.

He now wants to hold on to his starting spot, and said: “I’ve worked hard, and I’m trying to be as fit as possible for how the manager wants to play.

“It’s obvious he (Bielsa) wants high energy in midfield, he wants us to get beyond them and get the second balls, so it’s key in this league.

“Hopefully, if I can keep contributing, then long may it continue.”
