MOORE’S DILEMMA OVER ACE DWIGHT

- By Max Chesterton

DWIGHT Gayle’s injury return has caused a welcome selection headache according to West Brom boss Darren Moore ahead of tomorrow’s showdown with Brentford.

The on-loan Newcastle forward has found himself on the bench in the Baggies’ last three Championship games after succumbing to a calf injury.

In the 29-year-old’s absence, Jay Rodriguez has been tasked to lead from the front and has risen to the challenge, taking his tally for the season to nine by notching against Ipswich last week.

With West Brom securing three consecutive league victories, including fighting from behind to beat Swansea 2-1 on Wednesday, Moore’s admitted to finding it hard to slot Gayle straight back in against the Bees.

“Dwight’s back. He’s been on the bench,” he said.

“I’m not sure if it’s going to stay that way but he’s been on the bench in recent weeks and it’s credit to the boys; the way they’ve been performing.

“They’ve really applied themselves in the right manner.

“They’ve been a credit to themselves for how they’ve gone about things, showing us what they’ve got. It’s a squad and the rest of the players are there, chomping at the bit for the opportunity to get in.

“We’ll see fit as the games go by, with all the games we’ve got coming up.”

West Brom take on a Brentford side that have only won once in their last 12 outings after making a fine start to the season.

Baggies defender Kieran Gibbs, 29, is bewitched by the unpredictable nature of competition in the Championship.

He said: “This league is pretty crazy when you look at the results that happen each week.

“It’s a very exciting time to be involved in this league.”
