EISA SO HUNGRY TO SHOW WORTH

- LEAGUE ONE By Max Chesterton

IT’S BEEN a frustrating start to the season for Shrewsbury’s Abo Eisa but that hasn’t stopped the winger from waiting patiently on the touchline to make his mark.

Forced out of action for two months with knee ligament damage, the Sudanese-born attacker has been forced to watch on helplessly as his side have struggled to match the dizzying heights of last season.

Brought in by Paul Hurst before the former Shrews boss left for Ipswich, Eisa admitted to finding life hard with the recent managerial chop and changes.

“If Paul Hurst was here, then maybe I would’ve got a chance from the go (this season) but it’s football. It’s what happens,” said the 22-year-old former Wealdstone man.

“I understand it. It’s frustrating, of course, but you have to move on.

“I’m trying to start my career at Shrewsbury properly because I don’t feel like it has got started.

“I’m sure if it does get started, then it’ll be a good one.

“Last year, I finished strongly. I thought I’d get the chance at the start of the season.

“The last games (last season) were a chance to see if I can do it in League One.

“My performances were good so I thought I could do it. It gave me real confidence because I feel I can be a really good player.”

Eisa only played one minute during John Askey’s reign but he believes his injury setbacks have only made him mentally tougher as a player.

“You have to come in at 8.45am and finish at 3.30pm. It was six days a week,” he said.

“It was a tough one. It was very hard coming back to fitness.

“I didn’t think that because I’m naturally fit but getting over those mental obstacles helped me grow as a player and a man.

“Hopefully, I’ll be stronger and I feel stronger.”
