SOL GIVES MACC LIFT...

-

SOL Campbell watched his new Macclesfield troops bag their first away win of the season as they shocked Exeter at St James Park. Striker Harry Smith notched the only goal of the game on 54 minutes as the bottom-of-the-table Silkmen, who had just appointed former England international Campbell, made it back-to-back league wins. At the other end, MK Dons reclaimed top spot with a 2-0 home win against Morecambe. Two fine strikes from midfielder Alex Gilbey proved enough to see off the Shrimps. The Dons were able to go top after Lincoln, who had started the midweek programme top of the pile, were held to a 1-1 draw at mid-table Oldham. The Latics were reduced to ten men when striker Ishmael Miller was sent off for a late challenge on Lincoln keeper Josh Vickers in first half stoppage time. However, Oldham took the lead four minutes into the second half when substitute Mohamed Maouche struck a stunning 25-yarder into the top corner. The Imps levelled five minutes later when Michael O’Connor drilled home, but couldn’t force a winner against the ten men. Colchester remain third after a 1-0 victory at Forest Green, Sammie Szmodics coming up trumps with a 25th-minute winner. Newport climbed to fourth with a 3-1 success against Northampton thanks to goals from Josh Sheehan, Jamille Matt and Padraig Amond, while Bury jumped to fifth with a 4-1 thumping of Cheltenham, Nicky Maynard scoring twice. Grimsby shared the goals around as they dished out a 5-2 pasting to Tranmere, while Sol Pryce enjoyed a dream league debut in Swindon’s 3-2 home win against Stevenage. The 18-year-old striker netted after just 18 seconds and then notched a second on the stroke of half-time. Other results: Crewe 2 Cambridge 0; Notts Co 1 Carlisle 1; Yeovil 0 Port Vale 3; Mansfield v Crawley – postponed due to waterlogged pitch.
