JUDGE: YOU CAN’T BLAME BOSS FOR OUR SLUMP

-

BRENTFORD winger Alan Judge has urged his team-mates to keep their focus for the full 90 minutes as they try to put their poor form behind them. The Bees took a sixth-minute lead through top scorer Neal Maupay against Sheffield United on Tuesday night, but then conceded twice in a five-minute spell – an Ezri Konsa own goal and a super strike from Blades captain Oliver Norwood – to go behind with just 15 minutes played. After Romaine Sawyers fired in with the aid of a deflection to level things up on 65 minutes, the visitors snatched the spoils when substitute Leon Clarke, criminally unmarked, swept the ball home eight minutes later. “We’ve scored two goals at home and you’d expect to win, but we are conceding sloppy goals, real sloppy goals and they are ruining our chances,” said Judge. “I think it’s a lack of concentration on everybody’s behalf. We spoke about it in there and we’ve all openly said that it’s a lack of concentration. “We scored and went 1-0 up, but they go 2-1 up straightaway. We get it back to 2-2 and concede again “We have a habit of conceding goals in five minute spells and that’s something we definitely need to work on.” The 30-year-old Dubliner has sympathy for new boss Thomas Frank, who has lost six of his first seven games. “This poor run started before he took over – it’s not Thomas’ fault. Obviously we didn’t expect it would go on this long but as players we have to come in, work hard and keep going. That win will come. “We’re a confident bunch in the way we play but sometimes we just need to see out games. Once we get that first point or three, I think confidence will come returning with every game. “We can’t always play nice, pretty football. That’s where we need to sit in and grind out results. It’s a different way than what we usually do here, but maybe that’s the way we’ll have to do it. Whatever Thomas comes up with, the lads will be fully behind it.” A trip to the Hawthorns to take on high-flying West Brom tomorrow night is a daunting challenge, but Judge is ready for it. “West Brom have got good footballers and they score a lot of goals, but so do we,” he said. “We have to do something to stop the rot and hopefully we can do that soon.” As for himself, Judge, who netted in the 2-1 defeat against Middlesbrough last weekend, is just glad to be getting some regular game time as he continues to try to recapture the form he showed before he suffered a broken leg against Ipswich in April 2016. “I felt I played well against Middlesbrough and again tonight,” he said. “Two 90 minutes for me in a few days is massive. “I feel physically great and hopefully I’m showing signs of getting back to my old self.”
