PREMIER MISSION FIRES UP MOWBRAY

- By Tom Blackett

BLACKBURN Rovers have announced that manager Tony Mowbray has signed a new longterm deal with the club.

Mowbray has extended his stay at Ewood Park until at least 2022, which would take him up to five years with the club, after signing the three-and-ahalf-year deal.

The former Celtic, West Brom and Middlesbrough boss, who has also enjoyed stints at Hibernian and Coventry, led Rovers to promotion from League One in his first full campaign and has made a promising start to life in the Championship.

Mowbray, 55, has a win percentage of almost 50 per cent from his 92 games in charge and is keen to give the Rovers faithful further success in the coming years.

He is targeting the top flight of English football.

“I’ve enjoyed the journey so far, but there is still a long way to go. In my mind, it is always about trying to build, improve and get better,” he said.

“I feel as if we can prove to the owners that we can get them back on the right road towards the Premier League.

“I’m sure they will invest in this team and support the club back to where we belong.

“The support base of this team can enjoy football again and have great days and great occasions. That’s the burning desire I have.

“I want to bring those moments to the club like we did last season.”

Chief executive Steve Waggott added: “This is the second time I have worked with Tony (previously at Coventry) and what always shines through when working with him is his passion, hard work, enthusiasm and honesty.

“His attention to detail and style of management has already brought success to Rovers by gaining promotion at the first attempt out of League One and back to the Championship.”
