MEYLER IS ON A MISSION AT SKY BLUES...

- By Matt Long

DAVID Meyler hopes he can bring leadership qualities to Coventry after joining on loan from Championship side Reading.

The 29-year-old midfielder arrived at the Sky Blues until the end of the season and is determined to help his new side move up the League One table.

The former Hull man, who has 24 caps for the Republic of Ireland, admits the chance of playing regular football was an opportunity he could not turn down.

“I’m excited to be here,” explained Meyler. “My situation was difficult at Reading and there was an opportunity to come play football, and that is what it is about.

“I hold no grudges and I’m here now. That was in the past. I’m a Coventry City player until the end of the season, so obviously I want to win games for the club.

“I think my best attribute is I get the best out of others.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to captain some of the clubs I’ve been at and had the privilege to captain my country, so if I can bring any leadership or help the squad, then I will do that.”

Elsewhere, 20-year-old winger Charlie Wakefield also joined the Sky Blues after being released by Chelsea.

There were three departures from the Ricoh Arena, most notably club captain and 37-year-old midfielder Michael Doyle leaving to join Notts County.

Coventry boss Mark Robins admitted the Irishman was frustrated at the lack of playing time.

“He wants to play. He was conflicted with his feelings and was frustrated not playing regularly and we had numerous conversations,” said the Sky Blues chief.

Midfielder Abu Ogogo, 29, and 24-year-old Jonson Clarke-Harris both made the switch to League One strugglers Bristol Rovers.
