DAN’S THE MAN TO HELP MIAZGA DECIDE...

- By Tom Dean

NEW Reading signing Matt Miazga said it was his friend Danny Williams who convinced him to join the relegation-threatened Royals.

The 23-year-old centre back has signed for Reading on loan until the end of the season from Chelsea, having spent the first half of the campaign on loan to Nantes in Ligue 1.

Having made 11 appearances for the United States, scoring one goal, the American brings international pedigree to the Championship, a league which he keeps a close eye on and is very keen to get stuck into.

“It’s a very well-known club in the UK. I had a chat with my friend Danny Williams, who played here before, and he told me a bit about the club and their past”, said Miazga.

“I have always kept track of the Championship because I have a lot of friends and former teammates who play in it.

“Obviously, I have seen the position that we are in but this is football and we’ve got to keep fighting and keep working.

“I know that there is a good team here already, with a good manager and a new, exciting style to keep building on. I’m excited to be a part of it and help the team get what is most important and that is victories.”

Reading have struggled for form this season and find themselves in the midst of a relegation scrap but the former Vitesse Arnhem player is hoping that a strong pre-existing bond with one player will be a bonus.

“I already know Lewis Baker from Vitesse and from Chelsea. I’m looking forward now to getting to know all the players and fight for the badge”, said Miazga.

“I want to help the team in any way that I can and, ultimately, the goal is for us to get as many victories as we can.”
