GUILBERT EXPECTS VILLA TO REACH THE TOP

- By Graham Parish

FREDERIC Guilbert hopes to be playing Premier League football when he makes his Aston Villa debut next season.

The 24-year-old rightback signed for Villa on deadline day, but was loaned back to French club Caen until the end of the current campaign.

Guilbert said: “Aston Villa is a big club that has been champions of England on seven occasions and has a proud and long history.

“This club has no business being in the Championship and I hope we can get promoted as soon as possible.

“I have all the qualities of a fighter, and I never give up.

“I feel I have a lot of qualities to bring to the team and hopefully I can show them when I play.

“I’m very happy to discover a new football culture and I’m looking forward to moving here in time for next season.

“I’m looking forward to joining in the summer. I’m going back to my parent club on loan for the rest of the season. I’m going to finish the mission in France and then I’ll be ready for a new challenge.

“The coach and owner (at Caen) wanted me to stay for the rest of the season, so that is why it has taken a bit longer to conclude. But I am very happy to now be an Aston Villa player.

“The aim is promotion and if the team can do it this season it would be brilliant.

“If not, I will fulfil the mission with them next season.”
