FOX IS UP FOR THE SURVIVAL BATTLE AT LATICS

- By Gareth Davies

DEFENDER Danny Fox believes his experience can help Wigan in the fight against relegation after completing his move from Nottingham Forest.

The 32-year-old has joined the Latics after five years at the City Ground, having also played for Celtic, Burnley and Southampton.

Paul Cook’s side are fighting for survival in the Championship and Fox believes he can play a key role in that battle.

“I will bring a little bit of experience from playing in this league for quite a long time and I have played at big clubs like Nottingham Forest and Celtic,” said Fox.

“So I think I will bring experience to the dressing room. We have a few young lads who probably need a bit of guidance and older pros can help with that in the dressing room.

“I’ll have a will to win and a desire to get results for Wigan.”

Boss Cook described Fox as “a great addition” to his squad. He added: “Great credit to Danny for joining us after captaining Nottingham Forest in their promotion push in the Championship.

“I think our supporters would appreciate that leadership amongst our very young back five. We have been searching for that and we are delighted to have found it in Danny.”

Cook has also welcomed the signing of experienced Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke on loan until the end of the season. The 33-year-old, who has made almost 500 appearances in a career including spells at Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry and QPR, has agreed a temporary switch until the end of the season.

Cook said: “Leon is another good player with experience at this level.

“With players like Leon and Danny Fox added to our group and the backing of our supporters, we are in a good place for the run-in.”
