WAY ANGRY AFTER REVELL HITS WINNER TO SINK THE GLOVERS

- By Matt Ford

YEOVIL manager Darren Way was left incensed after Tom James’ ‘opener’ was ruled out for offside as Alex Revell’s second-half eventually strike sunk the Glovers.

Revell scored after 72 minutes to claim the points for the home side, but they looked to have fallen behind 12 minutes earlier when James netted direct from a freekick. But the linesman flagged for offside and it proved to be a turning point as Stevenage went on to win the match.

“It was no different from our goal against Carlisle,” raged Way. “That’s what Tom James does really well from that wide area.

“He makes good contact with the ball, it’s on tar-

get, the keeper’s position was wrong, and we find ourselves punished.

“To go down the other end in a short spell of time and concede like we did, we were disappointed with that.”

Yeovil began the brighter and Alex Dobre’s driven left-foot shot flashed past goalkeeper Paul Farman’s far post. The hosts were growing into the contest, though, and only a superb reflex save from Nathan Baxter via a deflection denied Michael Timlin, while Johnny Hunt hit a post.

But Yeovil were left aggrieved after the break when James’ free-kick went straight in, only for the linesman to rule it out for offside with top scorer Alex Fisher in close attendance.

It proved a turning point as Stevenage captain Revell’s smart run and finish from debutant sub Jorden Gibson’s cross proved decisive with 18 minutes remaining.

Stevenage manager Dino Maamria hailed his side’s patience and quality after they saw off a stubborn Yeovil outfit. Maamria felt his side had dominated from the first minute and deserved more goals in a crucial victory that keeps Stevenage in touch of the play-off places. He said: “First half we were very good.

“Actually, I thought we were better in the first half than the second.

“In the first half we totally dominated, we played on the front foot.

“The second half it was a great finish by Rev, but we had to keep composed, games like these can end up a frustrating 0-0.”
