FRANK’S FIRED UP TO PUT IN NOUBLE EFFORT

- By Dan Barnes

FRANK Nouble simply loves the thrill of the chase.

Moving ever deeper into the final third of the season, Colchester are one of a number of sides within striking distance of the automatic promotion places.

Striker Nouble thinks that the U’s should go for broke in the weeks to come and reckons that his team – and similarly-placed contenders – should back themselves to reel in the likes of Lincoln, Mansfield and Bury.

“It’s now the business end of the season. This is where you get your money,” said the 27-year-old.

“Mentally, we realise we’re in a great position and we just have to capitalise on it.

“Teams have pretty much played the same amount of games now and we’re just looking forward to playing as many games as possible now nearly everyone’s fit.

“The winter period has gone now, where there are a lot of games in a short space of time.

“There’s 14 games left and I think every game is like a final for all of the teams in the top eight or nine fighting for automatic or play-off places.

“The top three should be in the thinking for every team in the top eight and we’re no different to that.”

Well-travelled frontman Nouble, who has had spells with the likes of West Ham, Ipswich, Coventry and Newport, is also ready to muck in during the run-in, happy to operate out wide if head coach John McGreal wishes it.

“We’ve got a lot of attacking players here – I realise that,” he said.

“We’re all different and if I’m playing up there (up front), I’m different to (Mikael) Mandron or (Luke) Norris. I prefer it there than out wide – that’s the truth and I’ve never hidden that. But if the team is winning and playing well, it doesn’t matter where I’m playing.”
