ROVERS LEFT TO RUE LATE ‘SUCKERPUNCH’

We got a raw deal, insists boss McCann

- By Sam Jordan

GRANT McCann believes his Doncaster side got a “raw deal” when denied a lastgasp winner in the draw with promotion rivals Charlton.

A John Marquis own goal put Charlton ahead, but it was quickly cancelled out with a fine finish from Mallik Wilks.

Grant McCann insisted his Doncaster side were on the end of a harsh call after being denied a dramatic winner against their promotion adversaries.

“Five major decisions have gone against us today,” he said.

“We’re so frustrated. We’ve come up against a very good team and matched them for spells. They’ve been on top of us, we’ve been on top of them, it’s almost been like a boxing match.

“That is what you’re going to get with two teams at the top end of the league. Sometimes you want a decision to go your way and we got suckerpunched.

“We’re lucky that we can see it back and I understand linesmen and referees have a very difficult job, but Tommy is onside when he flicks the ball in the net.

“I’m not here to complain about referees and linesmen but we want some consistency. We got dealt a raw deal.”

Charlton started the game the stronger and Lyle Taylor was denied after racing clear, before Marquis nipped in to turn home, but the flag was raised for offside.

It took a spectacular save from Marko Marosi to keep out a fierce drive from Krystian Bielik, before Doncaster defender Paul Downing’s header was cleared off the line by Chris Solly. But it was Charlton who took the lead
