HUNGRY EMILIANO WANTS TO MAKE HIS MARC

- By Tom Dean

EMILIANO Marcondes is on a mission to finally nail down a first-team place at Brentford after returning from injury last week.

The 24-year-old joined the Bees from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland in January last year but has been unable to replicate his goalscoring form since his arrival at Griffin Park.

Marcondes was on a hot streak before leaving Denmark, having scored 18 goals in 20 games, but finds himself without a goal to his name in England and injuries haven’t helped his cause.

The attacking midfielder, who has represented Denmark’s Under-21s, injured his knee against West Brom in December and came straight back into the first team on his return last Saturday in a 3-0 win against QPR.

“It was really good to come back in and get some minutes with the guys and a derby win was amazing,” said Marcondes.

“I don’t think that was the plan really but I felt good all week and I tried to push for selection. I felt great on the day so I said ‘I am ready and if you want me to play then I can play’.

“It was amazing to hear the fans shouting my name and singing – I was really impressed with everyone in the stadium. It is so amazing to be back and I just want to play more now.”

Marcondes has returned to a team that is enjoying an upturn in form under Thomas Frank and is excited about the system he could now find himself in.

“I like playing in between the lines and connecting with the strikers and the other winger so I really like the system,” he added.

“Also with the fullbacks you can play without looking wide and they give us another aspect of our play so it is really good.”
