BRITT’S COOL ON BORO’S BID FOR GLORY
BRITT Assombalonga is “chilled” about Middlesbrough’s prospects in the Championship run-in with promotion on the line.
Boro look to be on course for a play-off place, though with a game in hand on the teams around them they still have an outside chance of automatic promotion.
Striker Assombalonga said: “It would be nice to go up automatic, but at the same time we have to prepare for other things as well.
“If we do end up in the play-offs then we need to have the form and momentum to take into those games.
“If we have to go up that way then we will take it: happy days for everybody.”
The 26-year-old, the club’s leading scorer this season with 12 goals in all competitions, will not allow himself to be distracted by permutations elsewhere.
“If you try to follow every game, every twist and turn, every goal another team scores then your head explodes,” he said.
“I know some people are glued to Sky Sports News and the league table and the fixtures and try to work it all out. I try to be more chilled about it.
“All the teams above us have to play each other and everyone can beat everyone in this league.
“We beat QPR comfortably, but then they went and beat Leeds. Leeds beat West Brom. Every week someone slips up. Worrying about what happens in other games won’t change anything for us.”
