Equal their record run

Away the lads: Luton

- By Martin Hodgkison

LUTON Town boss Mick Harford was delighted with his table-topping League One side as they equalled last season’s record of 11 unbeaten away games following their draw at Plymouth.

Harford said: “We came down here with a very positive attitude and I am absolutely thrilled we kept a clean sheet.”

Six-foot-seven Argyle keeper Matt Macey made three superb stops to keep Town at bay as Luton extended their unbeaten run to 23 games.

Argyle’s on-loan Arsenal keeper made a brilliant save to tip James Collins’ goalbound header on to the bar at the start of the second half as the freescoring Hatters pressed.

Macey went full stretch twice to keep out goal-bound low Lee Elliott shots.

Argyle’s best chance fell to Ruben Lameiras in the first half, but his early shot flew just wide.

Harford said: “I feel a bit deflated because I thought we were the better team by a country mile. There was only one team that really wanted to win the game.

“We just kept ploughing forward and maybe if we got in the final third a bit more and if we showed a little bit more creativity we could have won the game quite comfortably.

“Overall, it’s a tough place to come. They got bodies behind the ball and if you go away from home and keep a clean sheet you’ll take that.

“They work their socks off, they work hard and all the records we are breaking are testament to all the hard work we do on the training ground.”

Argyle boss Derek Adams said: “It was a good match. It was very competitive.

“We started the game well and were probably unfortunate not to have gone ahead with Ruben having a shot just past a post.

“We had the better of the first half and Luton had the better of the second half.

“We obviously had to deal with James Collins and Danny Hylton and I thought we did that early in the game.

“We dealt with the threat they posed, because they have scored a lot of goals, by keeping a clean sheet. I am pleased because we limited them to very few clear-cut opportunities.

“We tried to get into the final third a number of times, but we just couldn’t find that killer pass.”
