Robins rocked by O’Hare’s late effort

- By Matthew Hubbert

ON-LOAN Aston Villa midfield man Callum O’Hare’s late winner enabled Carlisle to end a five game winless run with victory over Swindon Town.

Hallam Hope’s first half strike was cancelled out by a Kyle Bennett free kick, but O’Hare struck to halt Swindon’s own fourgame unbeaten run.

Carlisle manager Steven Pressley hailed “a massive result” and commented: “It was important to win the game and we played patient football against a really good side. It got a bit nervous, but you can expect that given the wee blip we’ve had.”

Pressley’s decision to bring on substitute Kelvin Etuhu paid dividends in midfield and he said: “He got us on the front foot and changed the flow of the game.”

“We have had some good performances and not been winning. This wasn’t our best, but we won. We took a big step forward and showed determination.”

Swindon boss Richie Wellens tried to look at the positives despite the defeat, and has set his side a target of seven wins from their last 11 games of the season if they are to make the play-offs

“We still have the opportunity to do something this season and we must concentrate on what is coming up in the next few days.

“We looked bright and created chances, but then we started turning the ball over too much. I can’t fault the effort or the quality, but we should be scoring more.”

“We have eleven games left and need to win seven. It’s important we don’t go bang, bang and lose two or three because the feel-good factor is coming back.” Both sides struggled to come to terms with the conditions in the early stages, but it was Carlisle who made the breakthrough in the 13th minute when Jamie Devitt played the ball in to the box for Hope to gather and hit a low shot that took a deflection as it skidded inside the right hand post.

The Robins drew level in the 39th minute after Keshi Anderson was fouled just outside the area. Bennett curled the free kick over the wall and into the net.

Swindon had the better of the possession after the break, forcing the home side to defend deep.

However the home side weathered the storm and went in front in the 80th minute when O’Hare fired home after Nathan Thomas’s initial shot was blocked.
