BOWYER: I’LL NEVER FORGET MY ‘POOL DAYS...

-

GARY Bowyer has not ruled out a return to Blackpool one day – despite walking out on the Seasiders in August. Bowyer, who led the club to promotion from League Two via the play-offs in 2017, quit just one game into the season after becoming frustrated by the sale of key players. However, his relationship with the fanbase remains intact and with Owen Oyston now ousted from the boardroom, the 47-year-old feels the club can finally move forward. “I see the fans are all coming back which will be fantastic for the club, and especially for the town,” said Bowyer, whose old assistant Terry McPhillips is currently in charge. “My time was done at Blackpool, but I had two fabulous years there. Any manager will tell you that to lead your team out at Wembley is the pinnacle of the profession. “As a kid growing up, you always wanted to play in the Cup final. And when you get into management, the dream is to lead a team out there. I was very fortunate to be able to do that. “I had a wonderful group of players. They stuck together, ignored all the well-documented stuff that was going off. “I had a fantastic relationship with them, and with the supporters. The most important thing for me – and this is the message I got out – was that we had to concentrate on football. I couldn’t control anything else. The fans understood that and I think that was the basis of our trust. “Somebody asked me the other day ‘Would you ever go back?’. In football you can never say never about anything.”
