MOORE URGES ALEX TO SEIZE HIS CHANCE
DONCASTER Rovers boss Darren Moore is confident Alex Kiwomya has the opportunity to make an impact at the Keepmoat Stadium this season – now he’s trying to convince the striker himself.
Kiwomya made a somewhat unexpected appearance off the bench in last weekend’s draw at Ipswich Town after being transfer-listed by previous Rovers boss Grant McCann at the end of last season.
A loan move away looked to be on the cards for the 23-year-old during the summer transfer window however nothing materialised and Moore has heaped praise on the youngster for the manner in which he has thrown himself into training since.
“Alex has got to realise he’s here at Doncaster Rovers this season and it’s in his hands,” said Moore.
“He should be looking to get back out there and succeed for Doncaster Rovers and getting himself back up to speed. Alex can go as far as he wants. There are opportunities for him to play.”
The striker has endured a tough time since joining Rovers two years ago, missing the majority of his first season after being diagnosed with an auto-immune condition before spending last season on loan at Chesterfield.
Moore can see his talents in training but he believes Kiwomya needs to show more belief in his own ability to make a real impact on the pitch.
“I think the ball is in Alex’s court if he wants to play in this team because he’s certainly got the ability,” he said.
“Maybe from a little bit of ring rust and not playing, he had a couple of half chances that a fully fit, mobile and upward Alex Kiwomya would take.
“He’s in the team. He’s working hard in training and he needs to continue working hard.
“And when the opportunities present themselves, he’s got to take them.”
