POSITIVE GRIMES IN RALLY CRY TO SWANS
SWANSEA captain Matt Grimes has urged his side to bounce back after the international break.
The Swans’ excellent start to the Championship season suffered a blow last week when they were beaten at home by struggling Stoke, having conceded in the final minute.
But midfielder Grimes wants his team to brush off that disappointment when they resume their campaign at managerless Barnsley. “We’re still only one point from the top,” said the 24-year-old.
“We need to remain positive even though our home form hasn’t been as good as we’re used to.
“We just need to keep on top of it and we are working to make it better.
“We will keep building towards the future and try not to dwell on the weekend result for too long.
“We’ve had a couple of disappointing results, but we need to keep on with our work and hope that we can pick up some more positive results. We will go to Barnsley confident we can get a result.” One reason behind Swansea’s impressive form is the impact of head coach Steve Cooper.
The former England youth coach arrived at the Liberty Stadium in the summer, replacing Graham Potter, and has had a positive effect on the squad.
Sam Surridge has scored four goals in ten appearances since linking up with the Swans on loan from Bournemouth.
Surridge was keen to praise Cooper for his form, saying: “Coops has been brilliant with me.
“When I joined he knew about me from watching games so I trusted him and he’s got Marge (Martyn Margetson) the goalkeeping coach who is here with England and Marshy (Mike Marsh – assistant), and they’ve all been really good.
“It’s a bonus for me that we’re doing so well, if we get promoted it’ll be even better for me because that would be a massive thing for me personally.”
