ELLIOTT HAD NO FEAR AT MAKING RETURN
WHEN Elliott Frear turned up at Forest Green after rejoining the club this week, it felt like he had never left.
The flying 29-year-old winger, who spent two and a half years with Rovers prior to their 2017 promotion to the Football League, has been a free agent since opting to leave Scottish Premiership side Motherwell at the end of last season.
Frear became a fans’ favourite during his previous spell at The New Lawn, scoring 12 goals in 107 appearances, and now having signed a shortterm deal until January, he is keen to rekindle the romance.
“Hopefully I can repay the fans again and show them how much I have improved since I have been up in Scotland,” he said.
“The fans were great to me and my family, my wife and I really enjoyed our time in the area last time out.
“There is no hiding that the most I have enjoyed my football, both on and off the pitch, is here at Forest Green and hopefully I can enjoy it again.
“A short-term deal suits all parties and all things being well hopefully it can be a longer-term thing.”
Frear most recently trained at Exeter City before Rovers’ head coach Mark Cooper invited him to their Stanley Park training headquarters this week.
Despite having a successful spell in Scotland, Frear knew the time was right to return to England and has told Forest Green fans that they will be seeing a better player than the one who left two years ago.
“I’ve been really lucky injury-wise, so I’m hoping I’ve still got a good few years left at a high level,” he added.
“It’s been a long time since I started a game but, first and foremost, I’m looking forward to getting in with the lads and feeling fit again.”
