CARDIFF TALENT IS BIDDING TO KEEP UP VIBE

- By Ricky High

CARDIFF City winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing wants to keep the momentum going after a tricky start to the season.

The 27-year-old Birmingham-born ace admits he did not start the current campaign in the best possible form, but feels he is now hitting his stride.

Mendez-Laing joined the Bluebirds in May 2017 on a free transfer after turning down a new contract offer at Rochdale.

“The start to my season was maybe a little slow with injuries and getting back to full fitness.

“But I think that things like that are what I need to gain my confidence again and get going, so it was nice to get the assist (against Birmingham),” Mendez-Laing said.

“The mood in the camp has been very good. Everybody is happy and we’ve had a very good few days training. Spirits are high.

“We spoke about it between us and we said within ourselves that we need to build on this now.

“If you put a few wins together in this league you can completely change where you are in the table.

“You just want to play again and to keep that momentum going, so everybody is raring to go and excited for the game.”

Cardiff have also been boosted after defender Armand Traore rejoined the club on a short-term deal.

The 30-year-old will play for the Bluebirds until December 31 having previously played for the club during the second half of the 2017-18 campaign on loan from Nottingham Forest.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock said: “Armand has signed as cover. He’s been with us six weeks and he’s just about got up to fitness.

“It’s a short contract in case anything happens. The supporters know him. He’s got a very good left foot and loads of ability.

“It’s an appearance-based contract as well, so it’s up to him.”
